We're back in Araruama after an overnight trip to Buzios. The visit was a welcome change of pace after our previous few hectic days. We got to enjoy the beach a little, and to sample the most excellent sea-food and BBQ. It wasn't all rest though, pulses quickened when the kite plummetted into the water, and had to be rescued in a daring operation - photos coming

On a serious note, we visited two very interesting projects that are being managed by the local Rotary Club. The first aims to provide free eye care to all public school children. About 15% of the 8000 local children require classes, and the club has a continuous programme of raising money and efficiently testing the childrens eyes and issuing comfortable and good looking glasses.

The second project, sponsored by Colgate, provides toothpaste, brushes, and teaching materials to the same schools.
