D1100 GSE to Brazil 2009

A Long and Winding Road Led Me to......

  • The lovely city and people of Nova Frigburgo (Huge thanks to Gilvan, Neide and family for their hospitality and to Naiana for letting me share her birthday and acting as interpreter).
  • Seeing the work of Negra - a well know Brazilian who sculptures in clay which is later covered in grass.
  • Planting a tree in the Naval Hospital.
  • Meeting Julio again and being introduced to his lovely family - and the painted goats!
  • Appearing as supporting cast to Raph on Zoom TV - bread and butter pudding is introduced to Brazil!
  • Lots of Happy Hours with very generous Rotarians.
  • My first but not last Brazilian barbeque.
  • A walk up Picos da Caledonia (2310 metres).
  • An 18 Km walk the next day through rain forest.
  • Hugging a tree.
  • Being present at a Beetles concert in the town square featuring an Irish singer.
  • Attending a Jota Quest Pop Concert where I was the oldest swinger in town.
  • Trying to dance with a Brazilian man who appears on the Brazilian equivalent of Strictly Dancing.
  • Being found in a lingerie factory outlet shop.
  • Seeing the biggest beetle I have ever set eyes on (fortunately it was dead).
  • Wanting to go back to Nova Frigburgo.
  • Continue travelling with a great bunch of people who are making the Team Leader's job very easy.

Tchau for now.
