Let lovely Fribugo to drive to Conceiçaô de Macabu which was a few hours away
Arrived ti find it unbelievably hot and sunny - sweating just sitting still! We were all staying the their current Rotary Club President, Dolce. So we had lunch at her house along with her husband.
First visit of the afternoon was to a school for children with special needs - all sorts of medical help / facilities available - dentist, physio, psychologist, etc. Also have facilities for mothers to make material items for sale, e.g. dolls, dresses, etc. It seems to be quite a poor area but looks like a nice, small town with lots of children playing in the park in the town centre - which most towns seem to have around here.
You can tell you are in the country as there are a few people riding horses, horses pulling carts and saddles for sale in shops.
Then had a visit to the first female Mayor of Macabu who was very nice and she explained some of the changes she was making and explained how little money the town had.
Then in the evening did a presentation without projector - managed to use the 3 laptops and the booklets - to the local Rotary Club - most people there seemed to be children who had just been at the school we were having the meeting in. Seemed to go well and a lot of the kids wanted to spend time talking.
The next morning we were driven up a dirt track to a waterfall where we spent a while exploring the pools and the fall itself. Did our best not to get injured on the rocks coming down the stream - only a few bumps and scrapes were gained!
For lunch we went to the house of someone (still not sure who) for a BBQ (and beer). Usual Brasilian BBQ style - the meat is thinly sliced up and served as it is ready with some rice, beans, salad, etc - plenty of beer was on offer and Katie took advantage of it - it being her 30th birthday and all that - she also got a birthday cake with candles that never go out on.
In the evening after a couple of hours rest we met the leader of the local Chamber of Commerce (I think?), then we were on the local radio station where Ruth and Katie were the stars of the show answering questions in Portuguese! :-)
Next was to watch the rehearsal of a local band who were very good and it was all finished off by some nice pizza and caipirinha!
